The Atlanta Shoe Market is on the move.
The trade show, organized by Southeastern Shoe Travelers Inc., has changed its dates for the upcoming August 2012 event to avoid possible overlap with Magic and FN Platform.
New dates for the Atlanta market will be Aug. 17-19, and the show once again will be held at its longtime home: the Cobb Galleria and Renaissance Waverly Hotel.
Laura Conwell O’Brien, executive director of the show, said the Magic team contacted her three weeks ago to warn that the events could overlap by a day. “That’s not good for anyone,” O’Brien said. “So we’ve been working feverishly to [rearrange our days]. We’re trying to eliminate a difficult situation that might occur for retailers and exhibitors.”
With the date change, the Atlanta Shoe Market, which has been operating on a Saturday-to-Monday schedule, will return to a Friday-to-Sunday format. “My [organization] members have been clamoring for us to go back to that, so it works out in way,” said O’Brien.
The trade show continues to grow overall. Its August 2011 edition saw retailer attendance increase 9.2 percent, and exhibitor attendance grew 9.5 percent.
Dates for the upcoming winter show remain unchanged. It is still scheduled for Feb. 18-20, 2012.
